Mayor-President Melvin L. "Kip" Holden and the Mayor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness are working to provide critical information to the citizens of East Baton Rouge Parish to help them prepare for, respond to and recover from all emergency situations. We call it being "Red Stick Ready" -- our own brand of preparedness that our city and parish have become nationally known for.
The Mayor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness has achieved the highest national certification from the Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP). Baton Rouge is one of only two cities in Louisiana to be certified as a "Storm Ready Community" by the National Weather Service.
The Mayor's Office of Homeland Security in Baton Rouge is releasing a series of television shows. The show is themed "Red Stick Ready" and is part of an effort to enhance community outreach.
The premier broadcast was a video on hurricane preparedness featuring Jay Grymes. The 30-minute program will air on Metro Channel 21 and Cox Cable Channel 4. The show airs on Metro 21 at 9:30 p.m. every Friday night and 10 a.m. on Saturday mornings and replays on Cox Cable Channel 4 (check local listings for times). Each month, there will be a new topic, but you'll have several chances to watch.
